FIRST CALL RIGGING

First Call Rigging Ltd is the trading name for Jason (Jay) Call and offers rigging consultation, design and installation services to the Live Entertainment, Television and Film sectors.

​

A comprehensive list of prior work is provided on the Projects page but in its short time of existence First Call Rigging Ltd. has been responsible for projects as wide ranging as the rigging installation of Broadcast Lighting at Hampden Park for the Commonwealth Games 2014, the BAFTA Awards, Red Carpet rigging and Barclays British Summertime Festival Stage and Site Rigging. Jay also acts as Tour Rigger for Andrea Bocelli and Fat Boy Slim

Jay is NRC Level 3 and holds NEBOSH Health and Safety Management Gen. Cert.

BIOGRAPHY

 

Jay began his career in the Events Industry at the age of 16, followspotting for his local theatre, and continued working for small scale touring theatres throughout his university years. Following this he studied Stage Management and Technical Theatre at LAMDA

​

On graduation from LAMDA he worked as a freelance Lighting Technician and Stage Manager before taking a full-time role with The Barbican Centre as a Technician, here he was responsible for the installation and operation of lighting, rigging, sound and AV.

​

In 2000, he joined the Royal Albert Hall as Technical Show Manager where he was responsible for the venue's rigging, lighting and sound systems and liaison with incoming productions. He was also the Show Department’s Health and Safety Manager. During this period, he worked with many of the world’s premier artists and productions.

​

In 2003 Jay joined Summit Steel Ltd, a specialist rigging supplier, as Project Manager where he was responsible for client generation, project design, pricing and installation and the company’s Health and Safety Management. Summit Steel was subsequently purchased by The Production Resource Group where Jay was promoted to Senior Account Manager. Notable projects include Coldplay Viva La Vida UK and Europe Tour, BAFTA Red Carpet 2008 – 13, Royal Shakespeare Company’s spring seasons at the Roundhouse 2010 -11, Sky Bar installation at the O2 Arena and Broadcast and Sports Presentation Lighting Rigging installation for the Olympic Games 2012.

In February 2014 Jay left PRG to start his own company, First Call Rigging.
